(Not So) Conspiracy Theories

You all laughed when I said Facebook was bad news.



Foucualt's Panopticon doesn't sound so far-fetched all of a suddent.

For marketing yes, for more nefarious purposes maybe, but it might be giving the US federal government, including the CIA, a little too much credit given their mixed record (that's putting it charitably) on competency and foresight.

You're probably right re: giving the US government too much credit. Still, I don't think people fully appreciate the privacy issues associated with Facebook.

For the record, I was referring to Michel Foucault, not the scientist, who adapted Bentham's carcereal panopticon to modern society (/Discipline and Punish/, especially)
