Tale of more than two cities

Just read about the Economist's recent survey and ranking of global cities. Here are the top and bottom ten cities in the world:

Where is Montreal? The latter is certainly better off than Toronto in many ways (transit, etc). Toronto is a good city, but I wouldn't say it should be #5: I guess the "researchers" totally forgot to account for overpopulation and lack of infrastructure.
American cities did very poorly in this survey (I don't have the exact stats). Of course, this study measures a concept called "livability," which has little or nothing to do with, say, arts and culture, nightlife, etc.

I wouldn't mind ending up in Switzerland, but it's nice to know I'm in one of the most livable countries in the world.

euuuuuh...i wouldnt be too quick to jump on the swiss horse hermit

a)the french part of Chocolateland is PURE GARBAGE (i have no clue how geneva made it on that list) its ugly, disorganized and honestly blaaaah (the italo/german part is nice indeed)

b)swiss people love tourists not immigrants. That's why they have a very "welcoming" grading system for their citizens, BEST case scenario you end up a class B citizen. Which means if it's between you and a Swiss for a job, apt or parking spot, it's his regardless of the fact that you may be smarter, prettier or better qualified...gotta leave your ego in your suitcase

I guess you cannot blame the Swiss for being overprotective..after all their country is small and space is scarce.
That being said their so-called neutrality often translates into upfront hostility towards outsiders who want to settle in...

hmm maybe I should work...;)

I haven't been to Geneva, but I must take what you say with a grain of salt since you consider pretty much everything ugly :-)

You're absolutely right about the Swiss attitude: they are indeed very xenophobic, even towards other white people (slavs, etc).

yeah, where's is MTL? I can't see how TO is in the top 5: it's an ok city, but not top 5. MTL on the other hand is a cool city.

Le gouvernement te renumere pour lire des blogs? :-)

This survey is totally skewed from top to bottom.

How the hell is Vancouver at the top??? This survey does not account for "high hippies" when the survey was conducted. What, is government sponsored crack snorting locations considered a sign of liveability? (actually a pilot program in vancouver, as seen on CBC)

And Tehran is worse then 5 African countries listed above it, plus Karachi??? Come on...
